GSM Calculation Method Using GSM Cutter:

N.B: This calculation is mainly used for Textile materials.

  1. Firstly, you have to cut 5pcs swatches by sing GSM cutter from the different parts of fabrics.
  2. Measure the weight of each cutting swatches with the help of weighing balance in one by one method.
  3. Calculate the average weight of cutting swatches.
  4. Now, by multiplying “average cutting swatch weight” with 100, we can easily get the actual fabric’s GSM.

N.B: Area of round GSM cutter is (1/100) m2
Fabric’s GSM = Average cutting swatch weight × 100

GSM Calculation Without GSM Cutter:

N.B: This calculation is commonly used for nonwoven materials, paper, plastic and other thin materials.
  1. Measure the width of the sample in Meter
  2. Meassure the length of the sample in Meter
  3. Measure the weight of the sample in Gram
  4. Now devide the sample weight by the area of the sample

GSM is = (sample weight in gm)/(sample length in meter * sample width in meter)
